We realized that millions of individuals live independently, and while they value their autonomy, their families and friends often carry a quiet, persistent concern. We set out to build a platform that bridges that gap—providing profound peace of mind via "situational awareness", without compromising privacy or requiring daily check-in tasks or calls.

RU-Alive? is a situational awareness app designed to operate silently and efficiently in the background of your life. Whether you are aging in place, living solo in a new city, or residing in an independent senior center, our goal is to ensure you remain connected to your support network, quietly & reliably.

Engineering the Right Way

From day one, we refused to compromise on the app's architecture. Unlike tools that drain your battery through continuous software & GPS polling, RU-Alive? relies on rigorous, automated audits triggered directly by your device's native hardware, accelerometer and gyroscope.

You never have to tap or press a button, or perform a daily check-in with an app service. Occasionally you need to open the app and confirm it is running, but as long as you are going about your normal day and moving your device, the system knows you are active and remains silent in the background. If that movement stops for the duration of the timeframe you set, or if your battery drops below 5%, RU-Alive? automatically identifies the extraordinary state of stillness and dispatches a text message to the contacts you have selected to recieve critical messages.

Our Founding Story & A Tribute

RU-Alive? was developed under WhiteCap Associates, LLC, born out of a shared vision to build software with genuine human utility. This platform is the culmination of countless hours of whiteboard sessions, rigorous testing, and the relentless pursuit of a superb, battery-efficient architecture.

This application stands as a tribute to our late co-founder and business partner, Gus White. Gus possessed a brilliant engineering spirit and business acumen as the former COO of a public company (Second Spin). He also possessed an unwavering commitment to building things the right way, not just the easy way. His foundational contributions to the design and philosophy of RU-Alive? are permanently woven into the fabric of this application. We continue this work in his memory, proud to bring the vision he created, and that we shared, to the rest of the world.
